Da Ai’s Crowdfunding for Lau Yen Chen. She Needs RM75,000 for a Year’s Debridement and Rehabilitation Fees After an Accident.
“The 24-year-old Lau Yen Chen was at risk of amputation due to a broken limb during a car accident and the wound cannot be healed. She suffers severe brain impact and requires comprehensive care to avoid greater risks. However, her family could not afford the monthly fee of RM6,000 treatment fees. Hence, a donation is need”
Single Ms.Lau Yen Chen is a waiter in a sushi restaurant. She recently received a salary increment due to her hard work. Being a filial daughter, she planned to her family and take better care of her mother who no longer has a job.
Unfortunately, she is paralysed due to a car accident she sustained and is bedridden. Not only she is unable to take care of her mother, but she is also worried about her family. Yen Chen’s father has passed, and her family is living in Kuala Lumpur.
Ms.Lau Yen Chen suffers from family hereditary diabetes. She injured her finger at work not too long ago, causing inflammation and swelling.
She wanted to visit the Putrajaya Hospital which is near her company to treat the wound.
Unfortunately, she met a car accident and had a coma due to diabetes and severe hypoglycaemia. The car lost control and crashed into the lamp post, causing serious injuries.
Da Ai’s Crowdfunding for Ms.Lau Yen Chen. She Needs RM75,000 for a Year’s Debridement and Rehabilitation Fees After an Accident.
Now she is paralysed and bedridden; she can hardly move her fingers at the moment. She was rushed to government hospital for emergency treatment, and her family said that they cannot afford the expensive medical expenses and hoped that the hospital can reduce them.
No one expected a significant bill of RM21,085 at the end. After deduction of the government subsidy of RM4,105, they are required to pay RM16,980. The amount caused the family to pool and borrow money from their relatives to repay.
Lau Yen Chen has to take good care of her wound after discharging from the hospital. As she is paralysed on the bed, she had to arrange an ambulance for her follow-ups.
Besides, since she suffers from diabetes, her wound does not heal quickly and requires special care. A nurse is needed to visit her house for wound debridement every day.
She is unable to eat due to her injury, needing her family to deliver liquified food through a feeding tube three times a day.
Ms.Lau Yen Chen’s family helps her to do daily rehabilitation. She was scheduled to admit to the Hospital Rehabilitasi Cheras for professional rehabilitation and treatment for a few weeks, but the wound on her feet has become suppurative due to diabetes.
On 4th January 2021, she needed an emergency transfer to General Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) before transferring to Hospital Rehabilitasi Cheras after stabilisation.
According to Ms.Lau Yen Chen’s family, the best result of rehabilitation can reach a restoration of 70% of the original body functions with the lowest recovery state at 50%.
Wound debridement and medical care are difficult. It requires bandages, wound disinfectant, medicinal paraffin gauze dressing, antibacterial disinfectant, sterile water for wound washing, Dermacyn wound syrup, diaper cream, Dermacyn wound care hydrogel, cotton ball, control gel formula dressing, yellow syrup, non-woven swab, tracheostomy cannula cuffless / inner cannula 6.4mm x 10.8mm, alcohol pad, urine-proof pad, basic care wound kit, sterile gauze swabs, disposable sterile scalpels, medical pressure sensitive tape, etc.
Debridement is a surgical method that removes foreign substances, necrotic, inactivated or heavily contaminated tissues from open wounds. The extent of this treatment might suture the wound to minimise contamination to achieve primary healing, which is beneficial to the injured site and it will restore its function and form.
If wounds are not well-attended, an amputation might be required. This monthly treatment and medication supply (Including the help of a nurse), costs more than RM6,000, which is, a tremendous burden for Lau Yen Chen’s family. Hence, her second sister decided to contact Da Ai for help.
Lau Yen Chen has entrusted Da Ai to crowdfund for them. Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da Ai Malaysia calls upon enthusiastic philanthropists to lend a hand to them. A total of RM75,000 is needed.
The Details for Monthly Expenses Are as Follows:
Nurse and Debridement Treatment Fees
