Case No:972

Da Ai’s Crowdfunding for a Father of Two Chronically Ill Daughters. We Call upon Philanthropists for Help.
“Both daughters having medical expenses in arrears due to chronic diseases, the couple also lost their jobs due the global pandemic”
41-year-old Hoh Kaa Chun is unable to work due to a paralysis he suffered on the left half of his body caused by a stroke. He also suffered a car accident and fractured his right foot and disc bones. Both of his daughters have respiratory diseases that require long-term treatment. In addition to medical expenses in arrears, he too must deal with their future medical expenses and school fees.
Hoh Kaa Chun met Loh Siang Ling few years ago. They welcome a baby girl (21-month-old now) after marriage in 2018. The couple also has an 8-year-old daughter, a child from Loh Siang Ling’s previous marriage.
However, the two daughters admitted to the hospital for respiratory illness four months ago (3rd and 4th September, 2020). The younger daughter is allergic to seafood and has a respiratory infection (Mycoplasma) that caused rashes to the whole body while the elder suffered from pneumonia that caused asthma relapses. The latter required an oxygen tank to breath.

These incidents are not accidental. The younger daughter could only digest and defecate smoothly by taking soy milk powder due to gastrointestinal problems. Besides, the couple must pay close heed to the eldest due to her asthma. Her emotion and body temperature must be controlled to avoid asthmas or clinic visits for treatments.
Both daughters stayed in the hospital for one week until 11th September 2020 and their parents owed the hospital for a medical fee of RM10,954.95. After discussion with the hospital, the doctor agreed that the couple may take their time to repay. Despite the approved delays, the couple does not have the ability to repay.
Hoh Kaa Chun suffered a stroke 10 years ago that caused paralysis on his left body. He needed to take Cardiprin 100 to improve his blood circulation daily, if left unattended, the limb tissues will be dead. However, he decided to left the money for her daughters’ medication. After the stroke, Kaa Chun has been receiving a monthly aid of RM400 from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), but the money cannot support his entire family. He’s still looking for a job.

Despite the paralysis, Kaa Chun was able to work as a Wanton noodle hawker, until he suffered a car accident during a goods pickup in 2016. He was forced to quit his job due to his right foot and disc bone fractures. According to the doctor advice, the Hoh family bought a ROHO medical cushion for him but the RM500 product is damaged a year ago. Hence, a new ROHO cushion is needed.
After losing his working ability, Hoh Kaa Chun’s wife, 32-year-old Loh Siang Ling became the sole breadwinner of the family; she was a factory designer. However, the factory is permanently closed due to the pandemic in August last year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she can only freelance in designing works to maintain the family expenses. The monthly income is RM900 at most, a pay that cannot afford the entire family expenses.
To save expenses, the couple decided to move to a cheaper unit with no refrigerator or air conditioner. Their current home is located in Semenyih. Certain expenses can be saved, but the couple must also deal with basic expenses, namely diapers and soy milk powder for their youngest daughter. When the pandemic cases are controlled, the eldest daughter will return to school as a standard 3 student. This means that the poor family of Hoh’s will have to pay her transportation and school fees.

Hoh Kaa Chun has entrusted Da Ai to crowdfund for his family. Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da Ai Malaysia calls upon enthusiastic philanthropists to lend a hand to them. A total of RM41,534.95 is needed. The details are as follows:
